When choosing a natural deodorant look for natural ingredients with disinfectant or antibacterial properties, such as coconut oil, tea tree oil and clove oil, as well as essential oils like lavender, lemon, rosemary, sandalwood or bergamot to provide a pleasant scent and naturally absorbent ingredients like baking soda, arrowroot, or corn starch to combat moisture. Also look for the MADE SAFE seal. MADE SAFE certified products are formulated without ingredients known to harm people or the planet.

After undertaking a personal armpit detox and switching to natural deodorant, I have been trying a range of natural deodorant products that I can totally recommend. This is one of my favourite brands- I’ve tested several and have continued to use this one as I love the Vanilla and Coconut fragrance, but the Cherry Blossom is beautiful too!

Most underarm rashes are caused by moisture and friction. That irritation can then progress to topical infections (bacterial or fungal) that can be even harder to control. Keeping underarm skin dry and friction free is the key to keeping it happy!

COCONUT MATTER
For founder Diane, the ingredients in her deodorant were of utmost importance: as the daughter of a mother who had a mastectomy, she didn’t want her daughter using products with toxins or carcinogenic ingredients. Use of natural, sustainable ingredients that meet COSMOS-standards are Coconut Matter’s guiding principles, ensuring that the ingredients have no known harming effects on humans – no Aluminum, Baking Soda, Paraben, Silicone, Phthalates, Synthetic Fragrance, or Alcohol, and the packaging is pretty cool too – it’s zero-waste, made from compostable cardboard so it’s biodegradable.
I bought the Zen scented deodorant, which is a warm and woody fragrance created with a blend of Cedarwood, Bergamot and Vetiver essential oils. The main ingredient is the coconut oil, so unlike conventional deodorants dermal absorption isn’t a problem. OMG it smelt amazing and was so easy to use. There are five deodorants to choose from, depending on your mood: SPRING (uplifting), BLISS (refreshing), ZEN (calming), HERO (invigorating) and COCONUT, which is unscented, but still smells of coconuts and is hypoallergenic so great for extra sensitive skin!
Each deodorant comes in a compact 1oz / 30g paper tube that works like a popsicle for your pits. The deodorant does not contain water or fillers, so a little goes a long way.
The coconut oil made my skin feel really soft and smooth and there was no staining on my clothes. You simply use your index finger to push-up the deodorant in the tube and gently glide 2 to 4 swipes on dry and clean underarms – it will keep you fresh all day. Remember to keep in the fridge if you live in a very hot country as this will prevent it from getting too soft.
EARTH CONSCIOUS
