Plastic-Free brands I love: Your go-to guide for sustainable swaps

Feature Photo by Alesia  Kozik

With Plastic Free July just around the corner, I wanted to build on a conversation we started earlier this month. If you read my recent post, “How We Can Live Plastic-Free (And Actually Make It Stick), you’ll know that I shared some thoughts on how we can start shifting away from plastic in small, sustainable ways. It was all about easing into the change; baby steps, not perfection.

But now that we’ve planted the seed, I know many of you are ready to start swapping out some of those plastic-wrapped, throwaway items in your home. And I get it, knowing where to shop and which brands to trust can be overwhelming. So today’s post is exactly that: your go-to brand directory. Think of it as a little black book of plastic-free alternatives across all areas of your life, from your bathroom shelf to your kitchen sink, your wardrobe, your office, and beyond.

Every brand on this list has earned its spot here because they’re doing something genuinely great, either by eliminating plastic entirely, offering refill systems, or thinking deeply about circular design and longevity. Most importantly, these are brands I’d genuinely recommend to my best friend (that’s you!). Not because they’re trendy, but because they actually work and make me feel good about how I’m consuming.

BEAUTY & PERSONAL CARE

Activist Skincare

I’m a huge fan of Activist Skincare because they’ve really nailed the balance between luxury and sustainability. Their skincare is zero waste, and they go a step further with refill pouches that significantly reduce their waste output. Their formulas are thoughtfully crafted, their packaging is beautiful, and best of all, you never have to toss another plastic bottle into the bin.

Leaf Shave

If you’ve been scared off by safety razors in the past, Leaf Shave will change your mind. Their design is sleek, intuitive, and provides a ridiculously close shave without the need for disposable plastic cartridges. Their razors are built to last, and while the upfront investment is a bit more, the long-term savings (and waste reduction) are huge. Plus, it’s genuinely a beautiful object that makes shaving feel like a ritual.

Ancient + Brave

Ancient+Brave is wellness brand focuses on powerful, functional nutrition — collagen, MCT oils, nootropics — all designed to support body and brain. But what sets them apart is how they pair that with beautiful, plastic-free packaging and traceable ingredients. Their blends are potent, clean, and thoughtfully sourced. They feel indulgent but are rooted in genuine health science. Great for morning rituals and daily energy boosts.

Georganics

One of the OGs in plastic-free oral care, Georganics offers natural toothpaste, mouthwash tablets, and compostable toothbrushes. Their packaging is almost entirely glass, metal, and cardboard; no plastic tubes or brushes here. It’s easy to integrate into your routine and feels like a no-brainer swap. Personally, I love their beechwood interdental brushes, and I actually have a rolling subscription for their spearmint toothpaste tablets. Once you get your first pack, the refills are so much cheaper, too. They’re both so easy to integrate into your routine and feel like a no-brainer swap.

Lochtree

Initially best known for their beautiful plastic-free razors, Lochtree now offers a wide range of zero-waste personal care and household essentials. I especially recommend their Vegan Body Soap and PAPR – Zero-Waste Deodorant. They’ve curated a reliable selection that makes it easier to avoid plastic across many areas of your home, not just in the bathroom.

Lochtree Vegan Body Soap

Wild & Stone

Wild & Stone makes plastic-free alternatives for all those everyday basics: Toothbrushes, hair ties, kitchen cloths, Beeswax wraps and more. Their focus is on reusable, natural materials, often bamboo or stainless steel, which last longer and feel better in your hands. What I love most is their attention to design. These items are practical but also look lovely, making sustainability feel like a lifestyle, not a compromise. They offer free delivery, and they currently have a 40% off their health & beauty range if you apply the discount code PFJGLOW20 at the checkout.

AVANT SKINCARE

Founded in Old Street, London, in 2016, Avant Skincare is a luxury skincare brand dedicated to merging natural ingredients with advanced scientific innovation. With nutrient-rich formulations designed to enhance skin health, restore balance, and promote lasting radiance, Avant champions its skincare-to-share™ philosophy—creating products effective for everyone. Guided by inclusivity and gender equality, Avant meticulously selects each ingredient to ensure visible results and help everyone feel confident in their own skin. I particularly like their Sensitive Skincare collection.

HOME & KITCHEN

Bower Collective

Bower Collective has built an amazing circular model around home and personal care. They offer refill pouches for shampoos, conditioners, hand soaps, and cleaning products, and they make it really easy to send them back for reuse. Their ingredient lists are clean, their packaging is either recyclable or refillable, and their products work, which, let’s be honest, matters.

Katto

Based in Sheffield, Katto makes exquisite kitchen tools, knives, pans, and utensils, using sustainable materials and skilled craftsmanship. Their items are designed to last generations, not seasons, which is a direct answer to the throwaway culture of mass-produced kitchenware. Their commitment to plastic-free packaging and slow production makes them a top-tier choice for conscious cooks.

Bumboo

Bumboo is a fantastic choice if you’re looking to make a sustainable switch in your bathroom. They make soft, strong toilet paper using 100% bamboo, which is naturally regenerative and fast-growing. Crucially, their packaging is completely plastic-free (wrapped in paper, not plastic). Bamboo requires no pesticides and far less water than traditional paper pulp trees, making this an eco-friendly option from both a materials and packaging perspective. It’s a simple swap with a surprisingly big environmental impact.

Earth Breeze

You’ve probably seen their laundry sheets by now, and for good reason. Earth Breeze offers concentrated detergent in the form of dissolvable strips, packaged in cardboard. No plastic bottles, no mess. They clean really well (even in cold water), and their entire ethos is centred around low-waste, carbon-offsetting, and humanitarian aid. They also donate loads of laundry sheets to those in need with every purchase.

FASHION & CLOTHING

Happy Earth

This brand really lives up to its name. Happy Earth creates thoughtfully designed clothing made entirely from organic cotton. Absolutely no polyester, which is often a sneaky plastic in most wardrobes. Beyond the fibres, they pay attention to everything from the dyes they use to their carbon-neutral shipping. Their tees and sweatshirts feel soft and breathable, and you can wear them knowing no plastic microfibres are shedding into your laundry (and then into our oceans). Bonus: Every purchase supports environmental initiatives, from tree planting to protecting ecosystems.

With ethical production, affordable premium quality, and a focus on inspiring young eco-warriors, Angel & Rocket supports positive change through initiatives like its partnership with Newlife, a charity helping disabled and terminally ill children. Now award-winning and expanding internationally, the brand remains committed to joyful, characterful fashion with a lighter footprint.

Lavender Hill has nailed the luxury-basic aesthetic with their elevated everyday wear. What sets them apart is their commitment to using natural, plastic-free fibres like cotton, Tencel Modal, Bamboo – all biodegradable and breathable. Their production model prioritises local and ethical sourcing, meaning fewer air miles and better transparency. I find their pieces timeless and easy to style, and they’ve become staples in my own wardrobe.

PLAINANDSIMPLE

This brand is built on, you guessed it, simplicity and sustainability. They craft elegant basics using only natural fibres like organic cotton and Tencel Modal, steering clear of synthetic blends. The textures are beautiful, the fit is effortless, and the longevity of their garments really impressed me. By avoiding plastic-based fibres, they ensure every piece is a step towards cleaner oceans and healthier skin.

Cottsbury

Cottsbury is a UK-based ethical brand born from a mission to eliminate toxic chemicals, plastic pollution, and opaque supply chains from everyday essentials. Using only GOTS-certified organic cotton and Fairtrade-certified production, Cottsbury ensures its garments are free from harmful synthetics, pesticides, and plastics. With full transparency and respect for people and the planet, Cottsbury creates safe, sustainable clothing that upholds fair wages, decent working conditions, and eco-friendly practices.

Brothers We Stand

A brand that makes menswear with a conscience. Brothers We Stand curates ethically made collections using organic and recycled materials, and they clearly display the sustainability credentials of each item they sell. They’re brilliant for finding minimalist, durable menswear that avoids the pitfalls of fast fashion, especially synthetic fibres. I also appreciate how upfront they are about every garment’s footprint.

Rentrayage

French for “to mend or make whole again”, Rentrayage breathes new life into deadstock fabrics, vintage garments and previously discarded clothing. Inspired by artist Louise Bourgeois, their pieces are statement-making yet deeply rooted in sustainability. Every stitch feels like a rejection of wasteful fashion cycles and a celebration of creativity. Each piece feels like wearable art that tells a story.

VO In The Wild

VO In The Wild is a PETA-Approved Vegan apparel brand committed to slow fashion, compassion, and meaningful design. Rejecting fast fashion, the brand operates a zero-waste policy, producing garments to order or in small batches to prevent overconsumption and landfill waste. Donations from rare surplus go to Thread Ahead, supporting displaced refugees, while part of every order funds animal rescue sanctuaries and wildlife projects. Rooted in plant-based values, VO In The Wild weaves kindness to the planet, animals, and people into every stitch.

Bare Kind

Bare Kind’s socks are a delight, both in design and ethos. Made from bamboo, a naturally antimicrobial, breathable fibre. They’re a brilliant alternative to polyester socks. But what makes them extra special is that 10% of profits go to animal conservation charities. The packaging is fully plastic-free, and the mission behind each pair is one of kindness: to your feet, the planet, and the animals.

Wisdom Supply Co.

Who said office supplies can’t be zero waste? Wisdom Supply Co. is changing the game with refillable, recyclable, and plastic-free notebooks, pens, planners, and folders. Their system is genius and works particularly well for students or stationery lovers who are tired of disposable pens and plastic spiral binders.
